Targeting Audiences
BBC1 has to meet PSB remit and justify free licence
ITV1 has to attract adventures to found channels
Effects of technology
Despite being able to watch time shifted programs or stream TV, the majority of audiences still watch live TV on a TV set. The PSB channels are still the most popular - 85% of people in the uk with a TV watch PSB channels.
One of the reasons for live watching TV is SECOND SCREENING : screenings that encourage audiences to join discussion on various social media during a live TV show.
Another reason is AUDIENCE INTERACTIVITY : viewers are encourages to vote to determine the outcome. This continued engagement increases their commitment to the programme and loyalty to the channel.
THEORY: THE ACTIVE AUDIENCE
This focus on debates as to whether an audience is ACTIVE or PASSIVE
A passive audience believes everything the media tells them.
A active audience interacts with the media and makes own decisions.
Scheduling
Scheduling is, therefore, massively important to both BBC and ITV. completive scheduling can benefit the main channels as it creates publicity.
The Watershed
Overseen by OFCOM, the watershed is between 9pm and 5.30am.
During these hours, broadcasters can show content that is not suitable for children up to the age of 15 to 18 rated content cannot be shown until after 10pm.
Unsuitable material includes material includes sexual content , violence, graphic or disturbing imagery or language.

Establishing Shots
An establishing shot might be a long shot of a room that shows all the characters from a particular scene. For example, a scene about a murder in a college lecture hall might begin with a shot that shows the entire room, including the lecturing professor and the students taking notes.
Aerial shot
an arial shot is exterior shots taken from high in the air, covering a grand landscape of space, used to establish a sense of geography, this provides a sense of scale, serve as a films opening of ending.
Stedicame Shot
A Steadicam shot is any kind of video footage filmed using a Steadicam. Normally, a Steadicam shot tracks a moving subject to produce an incredibly smooth action. It removes the need for time-consuming and expensive set ups using cranes or dolly tracks.
Analysing Camerawork
They used a high angle shot of the hole to emphasise the depth of the hole.
In the first pub scene, they use blocking to show the divid between the newcomers and the villagers.

Editing
what could you be looking for ?
Shot/ reverse shot
It is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is shown looking at the first character.
Juxtaposition
It is the act of placing two or more things by side to compare or contrast. it is used throughout and literure to create meaning form two or more things.
Non continuity editing
it is when shots shots are mismatched to disrupt the impression of time and space. this draws the audiences attention to the process of cutting and disturbers the illusion of reality. an example is the use of flash backs.
Crosscutting
it described the video editing technique of switching back and forth between scenes, it often gives the impression that the action occurring in different locations is unfolding at the same moment.
Transitions - dissolve, wipe, fade

Green screen
shooting with a green screen involves filming a person or adding visual effects in from of a solid colour, ant then by removing the colour you can drop that scene onto a background of your choice.

The Equality Act in 2010 meant any discrimination was illegal; Britain was far more multicultural country, attitudes were far more accepting towards sexuality.
The differences you would expect to see from a police drama in2015 compared to one from 1965 there would be many more different crimes that could take place such as car crime and hacking then a crime in 1965 which would be something like murder or stealing.
